I heard back from the taker of the bacon and eggs and it's a great story! Scroll down to the bottom of this page if you want the update only. World Art Drop Day is here and I'm off to drop some art! I'm leaving these two paintings somewhere in the Portland area! They'll be visible, so no searching is involved. When I return, I'll update with pictures of where they got stashed. Did you find one? Let me know! You can comment below or, even better, email me with a picture of the art and I'll share it! Update: ART HAS BEEN DROPPED. This one ended up in the beer! I tried to stash it in the eggs but it's a busy egg day. I got super paranoid about the picture aspect of it for some reason. Did you get this one? Did you get beer, too? Tell me about it! (I heard back! Response below...) There's no drop photo for Marilyn because I whiffed it! I forgot my phone and by the time I got it from the car she was gone with no taker in sight. Did you get this one? I would love to know! (As of 9/7/14 I have not heard back from the finder...) I'll update this if anything comes of it! Either way, I hope two (or more) people had just a slightly brighter day. Like I did. The COMMENTS section is always open LATEST UPDATE: I HEARD BACK! And let me tell you, it made my day to receive this picture and the following email. I couldn't have asked for a better finder for this piece! I'm giddy. EMAIL: Hey, Amy! I was the lucky recipient of this lovely piece of art. My name is Adrian. I was doing some early afternoon grocery shopping, and while in the beer aisle, Wha-La! I was browsing their selection when I notice the art, in the back. At first I thought it was some fancy beer carton, but then I picked it up, and was extremely surprised to find Art! Pretty fucking cool! I looked around, read the back several times, and still looked for a barcode or price tag. Even at check out I felt like I was stealing?!? Lucky me!! I am currently cooking breakfast at a local establishment, and felt like somehow "this" picked me? Weirdness. I also didn't notice the skull and bones til my better half hipped me too it. HA! Anyways thanks Amy, it made my day, and it's beautiful. I just might do the same next year! Gonna get it framed. You rock!!! Adrian! P.S. I did get beer, apptly named "GoodLife" IPA outta Bend OR. I'm still waiting to see if I hear back from my other taker, but I'll update the blog if it happens! COMMENTS section always open.
Welcome to this stop on the 'Artists Around The World' Blog Hop.
...AND HERE WE GO! Q: Why do you do what you do? 1. I realized I have to. I tried to do something else with my life. I was basically successful, too! But I wasn't content with just having a good career. I worked hard and strived for success....but never felt any delight when it happened. I was supposed to be something else! Frankly, it made me a crappy person to be around! Oops. So I changed it.
Q: How does your work differ from others in your genre?
Q: How does your creative process work? I get together weekly-ish with other creative people who have the same goals....people who know more than I do and less than I do. It helps to interact with other artists because they understand the organic parts of the process. All of my paintings are pure joy to make and they all start out the same. I just start using paint. Mostly with my fingers in the early stages. Then I look at it and add a few more layers. And a few more, having fun with random colors and patterns...dots, stencils, fingerprints, textures, whatever feels good. Then I turn the canvas (or whatever) and work on it rotationally, adding more patterns all the way around until I find the subject and decide which way is up. I haven't found my flow for taking progress pictures yet, but here are couple of examples
(Note to self: Do better with progress photos!) Q: What are you working on now?
In the beginner's mind, there are many possibilities. In the expert's mind, there are few. -Shunrryu Suzuki, via Austin Kleon, Show Your Work *Every artist (writer, etc) should pick up Austin Kleon's books. They're easy reads, full of pictures and solid advice on doing what you do! Go make something fun today! Here are the next two artists on the blog hop! They will be answering the same four questions on their blogs Monday 9/8/14.
