Austin, Portland... And A Little (Weird) Art Therapy

8/25/2014

Picture
I've had the good fortune of living in both Austin, Texas AND Portland, Oregon.   Both as an adult.

And both places (as demonstrated above) like to 'keep it weird'.

I guess they succeed, too....I mean, I come from pretty weird stock, so I'm not the best judge!  Fact is, both cities are the cream of the crop as far as I'm concerned.   Don't trust anyone who says otherwise.   They're up to something.

This dawned on me last week, though:

I spent the majority of my adult years in Austin.  (Woo!)   But as of 10/03/14, that will change when Portland inches past Austin in the 'years resided' category!   Now THAT'S weird!

It feels a bit like a break up, Austin.  (But not one that stings TOO bad because I've been cheating for a while now!)  Let's be friends.

And...scene.

I've worked on a ton of new art all month.  I'll start rolling it out in September...it's going to be a good Fall (y'all)!

This week I'm sharing a ditty that relates to
1. embracing the weird, and
2. moving FORWARD without fear.

I started this 'piece' about 12 years ago.

Literally.

The version shown here is from 10 years ago...and it was the second attempt at making magic happen.

It didn't.

FAST FORWARD:  August 2014

I dusted that baby off (again).
And eliminated the red background.

It was time for something drastic to happen with that soul-sucker!

The end of an era, you might say.

I enhanced the flowers a tad...
Added some hills in the distance.

I took a blurry photo.
Then sat back and 'prayed' on it for awhile.

It was lovely enough.    For something.

But not for ME.

Was it the scale?
I mean, that's a huge, tiny tree there.

When has that ever mattered?!
(Please.)

Then I heard (in my own voice), "It doesn't matter...but you've gotta own it, girl!"

SO...

Now I present to you...12 years in the making:

If this is your first time here, look at my art gallery and other blogs, too!
Do YOU love what you're working on today?  You can leave a comment below either way.

I've been asked to participate in an 'Artists Around The World' blog hop.    Come back 9/1 to see what I have to say about my purpose and my process.

Some pieces are like coffee; you set them up, they basically do themselves, and they are ready for immediate consumption, lest they get cold. While others... well, others are like wine! And you know where Piglet with Bees (Not to scale) falls in that metaphor... love it, and you did nail it!
